We are fortunate that the distance between the parish of Our Lady Help of Christians and the school is small – and not just in a physical sense. A growing and evolving relationship, fostered and enriched through weekly class Masses, through regular Reflections meetings between me and the school staff, through termly School Families’ Masses, and through the school’s support of the yearly First Holy Communion programme, provides opportunities for the school children to learn how God is present in their daily lives - at home, at school, and in church. The sympathetic teamwork undertaken by adults present in each of these areas of a child’s life enables that child to live and develop in faith and in the love of God. Together, parish, school and home life bring the peace and love of God into every aspect of a child’s life and help them to develop into adult disciples to witness to Christ and his gospel in today’s world.
At the beginning of the year, Canon Lock always introduces himself to our new children and spent some time in EYFS during their first week at school. To help prepare our new children to our local Church, Canon Lock was very gracious and allowed our children the opportunity to tour the Church as well as spending some time practicing sitting, kneeling and standing as they would do during the Mass. All of this preparation helped to ensure our EYFS children had a very successful Welcome Mass at the beginning of September.
Canon Lock gave the children an informative tour of the church. There are so many spaces that we didn't even know existed!
